HOW TO REMOVING INVISIBLE ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS THAT ARE INSTALLED WITH WINDOWS

Removing additional programs that are installed with windows but are not initially visible in Add / Remove and are of no use to you is easy. An example is the Windows Messenger. The steps is removing such programs are as follows
  • Go to "C:\WINDOWS\INF\SYSOC.INF".  In there you will find a listing of programs, and you will note that some programs have the word 'hide' at the end.  Simply remove the word 'hide' but leave the extra comma:
BEFORE:msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7
AFTER:msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Now when you open Add-Remove Windows Components, you will see a new choice, in this example, "Windows Messenger" and if you like you uninstall.

SPEED UP BROWSING IN WINDOWS 2000 & XP

Here's a great tip to speed up your browsing of Windows XP machines. Its actually a fix to a bug installed as default in Windows 2000 that scans shared files for Scheduled Tasks. And it turns out that you can experience a delay as long as 30 seconds when you try to view shared files across a network because Windows 2000 is using the extra time to search the remote computer for any Scheduled Tasks. Note that though the fix is originally intended for only those affected, Windows 2000 users will experience that the actual browsing speed of both the Internet & Windows Explorers improve significantly after applying it since it doesn't search for Scheduled Tasks anymore. Here's how :

Open up the Registry and go to :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace

Under that branch, select the key :

{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

and delete it.

This is key that instructs Windows to search for Scheduled Tasks. If you like you may want to export the exact branch so that you can restore the key if necessary.

This fix is so effective that it doesn't require a reboot and you can almost immediately determine yourself how much it speeds up your browsing processes.

Ubuntu Ubuntu

I have just changed the OS on my Classmate PC from Windows Xp professional to Ubuntu Netbook 10.10. I  have also been thinking of of the GNU/Linux Os philosophy especially that of Ubuntu where all applications and software are free. Though I still like the windows OS but I love to be a linux geek too.
Moreover , Ubuntu is an African concept with the definition of of many African language and concepts. The one I love most is that of the  Archbishop Desmond Tutu which goes thus:
"A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed". PS: Find the full details HERE.
So you see Ubuntu is a one man or the open source pragmatic programmers. It is our business and I bet you will like it if you try it, even if you are not a linux freak.

Finding Stuff

If you are  looking for something on a long web page with Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and you think it's there, but you're faced with a large number of paragraphs, sentences, and words to go through.

Well, when this happen to you, just hit Edit on the Menu bar and click find or simply do the CTRL-F shortcut on the keyboard. You'll get a little find box in IE or a box under as applied to Firefox that allows you to type the specific word or number you are looking for.

Moreover, you can also use a variation of this tip in Windows Explorer. Next time you're looking for a file in Explorer, hit CRTL-F and you'll get a Find or Search box (depending on what flavor of Windows you're using).

If you are already in the area of your hard drive where you think the file is (say, My Documents), hit CTRL-F and your search will be set to look in the My Documents folder.

Process Suspender

Just came across this useful software. Really useful indeed, especially for novice whose task manager is disabled and they cant enable through the Group Policy.

Extracts from DRACULA

One missing feature of the task manager in Windows 2000 and XP is the option to momentarily freeze a process. Setting the priority of the process to idle will not give the desired result.
For example, if you're running a process that consumes all the CPU time available, this causes the CPU to run at 100% capacity all the time. Even if this process runs with idle priority, it will use the CPU when possible. To prevent over-heating of your pc or laptop, you can freeze these processes when you're away from your computer.
The windows of a frozen process will remain visible, but will not be re-painted when another windows moves over it. Note that mouse-clicks and keystrokes are still sent to the process and will be executed as soon as the process resumes.
Warning: pausing and resuming processes might be harmful to your system, so use it with caution. To prevent serious damage, pausing of system processes is disabled.

THE FOUNDERS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM

The first computing machine was human. Later, the ABACUS followed. Its orign can be traced as far as 300BC in the ancient Babylonian empire.

1649 – The first method of complex calculations Logarithm and it was created by JOHN NAPIER. John Napier make is of Napia fish bone (Spinal cord) to create logarithm table which makes the calculations of decimal easier.

30 years after Napier's invention, a French Mathematician/ Philosopher developed LEIBLIZE computer, which has the ability to perform division and multiplication. This device has series of gears having en (10) teeth, it also have the ability to carry digit to the next gear.

1834 – Charles Babbage created Analytical Engine which has the ability to perform Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. It also has the ability to compare two values (greater than and less than). Its has the ability to accept data as input and also process data as output.

1840 – ADA LOVELACE was an assistant to Charles Babbage, she created programming after the death of Charles Babbage although organized by Charles Babbage.

1728 – FALCUM LOAM Computer was created. It uses punch card for its operation.

1802 – JOSEPH MARLEY JACQUARD created the “WEAVERS MACHINE” which was used to indicate patterns and design.

1990 – HERMA HOLLERTH created punch card tabulating computer which can recalculate was uses in U.S.A for population census.

1937 – HOWARD AIKEN who graduated from Howard University in London with few engineers created AUTOMATIC SEQUENCE CONTROL CALCULATOR which can also be called MARK ONE. It is electromechanical components.

1942-1946 – JOHN U. and ATTA-NA –SOFT with their assistant CLIFFORD BERRY created “ATIA NASOFT BERRY COMPUTER which can also be called ABC computer, this device has processor that process data. It has A-Z character while others has 0-9 characters.

1945-1949 – DR. JOHN MANCHLY and JOHN P ECTET created Electronic Numeric Integrator and calculator (ENIAC) which can store large volume of information into its memory, but its memory is volatile which means that if the information s not stored before the computer get off it will be deleted.

HISTORY OF COMPUTER

Long ago before the birth of computer and internet. Humans were striving to simplify calculations.

The first computers were human e.g human clerks (computors) that performed computations.

The history may stated as it is below:

The history of computer system is categorized into two. They are:

1. The Non-Scientific and

2. The Scientific History of Computer system.

a) The non-Scientific History of Computer system deals with the Natural things that people use before the existence of computer. E.g. stones, stick. E.t.c. This led to the birth of Abacus which was originated in Babylon. Initially Abacus's origin was attributed to China. But the oldest surviving abacus was used in Babylon. Abacus is still in use today, majorly in the Eastern countries in the world e.g China

Advantages(merits)and Disadvantages(demerits) of Abacus

Working on addition and subtraction is fast and similar to that of the modern handy calculator with a skilled user.

It demerit is that Multiplication and division is damn slow.

b) Scientific history deals with the formulation and existence of computer system.

This aspect of the history deals with the inventions of computer fathers e.g John Napier, Blaise Pascal e.t.c
